Editorial Internship – United Media Group
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to work with our editorial team and gain some hands-on experience in the publishing industry. This fast paced and diverse role is an opportunity to expand your skills in all aspects of magazine publishing, both in print and online. You will also have the opportunity to pitch a topic, interview an expert and write a feature article to be printed, with your name on it, in one of our upcoming publications. This position is unpaid and would run over the course of eight to ten weeks, with specific hours and days to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Duties may include:
• Content / copy writing and sub-editing for print, online and social media
• Proofreading
• Sourcing content and pitching ideas for news pieces and feature articles
• Using WordPress and Divi builder to upload online content
• General admin tasks
The successful applicant will be currently studying a tertiary degree in writing, editing, communication or journalism, with a keen interest in magazine publishing and plans for a future career in this industry. You must also meet the key selection criteria below.
Key Selection Criteria:
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage time effectively
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
• Experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel
• Eagerness to learn and develop your skills in the industry
• Strong computer literacy and understanding of email etiquette
The following skills are highly valued, but not required:
• Fluent with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign
• Experience creating online and social media content
• Prior experience with WordPress and/or Divi
• Understanding of SEO and webpage rankings
